Russia’s current illegal invasion in Ukraine has led to some Canadian carriers making major changes to their long distance call charges to Ukraine.
As of 25th Feb 2022, some of the top Canadian Telecom providers such as Rogers, Koodo, Telus, Bell and Videotron are temporarily pausing long-distance charges from Canada to Ukraine until March 31st 2022.
What are the changes?
Freedom Mobile confirmed on their social media platforms that they are waiving International Long Distance and SMS fees for texts and calls to Ukraine until March 31st.
Bell showed solidarity towards Canadians concerned about their loved ones in Ukraine. They’re waiving all Home Phone and consumer Mobility Postpaid Long Distance Charges for calls from Canada to Ukraine until March 31st as well.
Rogers has stated that to help Canadians stay connected with their near and dear ones in Ukraine, they will temporarily waive SMS charges and long-distance, along with roaming charges for any Rogers customers in Canada.
Xplornet took to their social media accounts to confirm that they will be waiving all mobility long distance charges for calls as well as Home Phone from Canada to Ukraine until 31st March.
Koodo posted a tweet saying that in order to help families and friends stay connected in Ukraine, they will be waiving all additional charges for Texts and long distance calls made from Canada to Ukraine until March 12th.
Videotron has decided to suspend all long-distance call charges made from Canada to Ukraine as well. The telecom provider said the initiative is in effect and will run until March 31st, 2022 and further confirmed that customers don’t have to contact Videotron before making a call to Ukraine.
Fido Mobile took to their instagram to announce that they will waive long-distance along with SMS charges to Ukraine, in conjunction with roaming fees for customers currently residing in the country until the end of March.
Last but not the least, Shaw has also decided to waive all International Long Distance and SMS fees for texts and calls to Ukraine until 31st March 2022.
For now, we’re keeping an eye to see if other Canadian service providers have similar updates.
